Qeyé is an environmental platform that began in Ethiopia with a simple belief:
Take care of the environments we live in, those environments become healthier, cooler, and more supportive of everyday life.
- Impact-driven
- Connected with people
- Sustainable
Qeyé (ቀዬ) in Amharic Language, means one's surroundings, one's home, one's community in Amharic. For us, environmental action begins there, close to where people live and belong.
It started with something small but difficult to ignore. Trees around our office were being cut down. Instead of watching the change, we asked ourselves 'what can be done?' That moment shifted how we think about environmental action. Rather than planting seedlings, we planted mature trees (height of 1.5m or more) to ensure survivability and to see the impact sooner. We did it carefully, using proper methods that could be replicated. We realized that planting trees is not enough. What matters is whether they grow, whether they are cared for, and whether people feel connected to them.
Qeyé exists to make environmental care practical, visible, and shared. We create ways for people to take part in growing urban nature - by registering trees, tracking them, and building a sense of ownership around them. Because when a tree belongs to someone, it is more likely to be protected, cared for, and sustained.
As cities grow and landscapes change, living ecosystems are often the first to disappear. Yet trees are not just part of the environment, they shape how we live. They provide shade, improve air, support biodiversity, and create spaces where communities can thrive.
We believe real change happens when people are not just participants, but co-creators.
